Meaning, they go on a walk to gain ideas for their work. this can range from sights, sounds, feeling and all sorts of stuff, but ultimately, this all links back to one piece of work.
This Art Work is by Claudia Nice, this was a water colour demo in her book (Creating Textured Landscapes with pen, ink and water colour.)
Nice is a very established artists and specializes in a number of mediums, although her main one is pen and ink with water colour. Her works are very good and again, if you ever need art advice or help, she has a number of books, DVDs and online tutorials to offer.
Nice often draws from nature, which means she walks and hikes to find inspiration for a painting.

Well, i bought her book because it had this work on the front, so if that dose not say something then i don't know what will.
I do like her other work, and as she is a water colour artist i love learning from her books.
look her up as she too is a very talented artist and may have information that could help other artists too.
